Fall Fun

We have been lucky enough to still have some nice warm weather in October. It has cooled down quite a bit, but it is still nice enough to be outside. So October has found us doing a lot of outdoor activities. We are half way through Jacob's soccer season. He has 2 games left. He loves playing soccer and is best at defense. He will not let a ball get past him, and if it does, he thinks the world is coming to an end. But we have had a blast watching him play.

Last Friday we all went to Ridgeland to help Zach work on his final project for his Eagle. He decided to build an outdoor sand volleyball court at the church. He had a great turnout to help him and my kids had a blast climbing on the huge piles of sand and spreading them out. I had about 5 pounds of sand in my car after that, but it was fun. Zach had one of the ward members grill hamburgers and hotdogs for everyone, so we got fed for our efforts. Can't beat that! I was the photographer, so manual labor was not part of my contract!

And then last Saturday, Mark's brother Ryan and his family came down from Columbia and we had a crab boil. I love eating crab, but when you eat them this way, you sure have to work for the meat. But I do know how to shell a crab, and that's not your everyday know-how right there! Unfortunately, my doctor told me to eat crab sparingly so I only had 2, and I knew the sausage would give me heartburn, so I had a hamburger. But we had fun even though it was chilly. Mark made a fire to keep us warm and keep the gnats away and Susan made us some hot chocolate. All-in-all a great time. I just wish I could have eaten more!!!

Finally.....

.....an update! Bear with me as I have a lot of ground to cover. I will try to keep it simple so as to not bore anyone. I must first apologize for my lack of blogging. I have absolutely no idea what happened to September. It was Labor Day, and next thing I know, Jacob was telling me to change my calendar to October. So here is a quick summary of the last month or so.

We began September, and ended the summer, with one last trip. We took advantage of the long Labor Day weekend and drove up to North Carolina to visit Mark's Mammy and Grandaddy. Joe and Lora Leigh came as well and we all had a blast! We took the kids gem mining which is a tradition for us everytime we go to NC. We also went up to Mt. Mitchell which is the highest point East of the Mississippi. Now for all you Utah people, I know you live at the elevation at which we were standing, but it's a big deal around here when you live at 18 feet above sea level. Anyway, after buying some North Carolina apples for ourselves and many people at home, we headed back to Savannah. The girls at Mt. Mitchell Jacob at the gem mine

The day after we got home, school began for McKenna and Jacob. They were so excited (as was I), but we were sad to see the end of summer. But the kids are loving school and excelling at everything they do!

The rest of September was busy with making school lunches, doing homework, dance classes, soccer practice and lots of church stuff. Next thing I knew, Jacob was counting down the days until his birthday. He turned 5 on the 5th of October, which was this past Sunday. He was tortured while we watched 2 sessions of General Conference before heading to Grandma and Grandpa's house for his birthday party. But he was a good sport and had a terrific time opening all of his gifts. Happy #5 Jacob, we love you!!!

Now as some of you may or may not know, Mark and I are expecting our fifth baby! Big number I know, but we are so excited about it! My mother-in-law was kind enough to chauffeur my kids to and from school on Friday so that Mark and I could go together to my first OB appointment. They always do a vaginal ultrasound to determine pregnancy, so I love being able to check up on the pregnancy so early. They gave me info I already knew; I was 10 weeks and am due May 2nd. But they had a little surprise for us too.....not 1 baby, but 2! Yep, fraternal twins. I wasn't 100% shocked, but definitely stunned. Mark and I both had a feeling that this was what was going on. I have been sooooo sick, to the point that I could hardly get off the couch, and starting to show (at least to myself) a lot more quickly than I did with the others. Also, my home pregnancy test came back positive long before it should have. So we are having babies #5 and #6! Wish us luck, we're gonna need it!!!

Katy's Turn

Well it was finally Kaitlyn's turn for dance. She could hardly wait she was so excited. I really questioned whether I should take her or not because she was running a fever the night before. But she was fine when the time came, plus I don't think I could have held her back if I tried! She had a blast dancing! Kids that age just do their own thing, so it looked like chaos in the dance studio. But when she got home, she was able to show me some of the stuff she learned so I took that as a positive!
On a different note, I finished reading both Twilight and New Moon. Now my only problem is that I don't own the last 2 books. I really need to make a trip to Sam's Club. I have got to get these books finished so I can stop neglecting my family and my house. I think it's almost cruel to give a mother of four a good book to read. Maybe not cruel, torture might be the right word. But I haven't sat down and read in years, so I am not feeling too much guilt. I realize how much I have missed reading. It used to be my all time favorite thing to do, and I let it slip away from me when I started having kids. I never made it a priority, or even an after-thought really. I think now is a good time to change that!

Dance

Well after much financial consideration, Mark and I decided to enroll McKenna and Kaitlyn in a dance class. I did it without McKenna knowing, and when she found out, she was mortified. But after we got her shoes and leotards and what not, she starting getting really excited. Yesterday was McKenna's first dance class. She is learning jazz, tap and ballet. She was nervous when we first got there, but easily settled in once they got started. I wasn't able to get any pictures of her in the dance studio, but we took these few before she left. Now I am not one to live vicariously through my children, but I really hope she likes dance. It was something I always wanted to do, but didn't get to. After lesson #1, she seems to love it. She told me she wasn't going to quit until she got a trophy! But if it comes down to she's not having any fun, we will quit and try something new. I think it is so important that children find something they love and are good at. It gives them a confidence that nothing else can. So I will work until each of my kids find that for themselves! Kaitlyn's first class is on saturday. Oh boy......!

Summer

Two updates in two days--I think this is a record for me. Now that I have caught everyone up on our trip, I guess I need to get current. Fortunately things have been pretty calm around here. I FINALLY finished painting my kitchen and my downstairs bathroom. I was going to take a picture so you could see the color, but my kitchen is a mess at the moment and no one needs to see that. So now I have to get moving on the upstairs. The stairwell is what I am dreading--haven't figured out how that is going to work yet. Anyway, Mark has been super busy with final projects and final tests and work and church. When the bishop is gone 3 Sundays in a row, he certainly feels it when he gets back. But this past Sunday was awesome because he actually made it home before 2:00. That is a new record! I will attribute that to the fact that Sunday was also our 8th anniversary. I have posted a couple pictures from our wedding day. We really weren't able to do much for our anniversary, especially because not only was it Sunday but fast Sunday. Nontheless, it was a good day! I have enrolled McKenna and Kaitlyn in their first dance class. They start next week. McKenna is nervous, but I think she will have fun. I am signing Jacob up for soccer at the YMCA and he is thrilled. He asks me everyday when his game is, but they haven't even put the kids into teams yet. Joseph has learned to climb on everything. I find him sitting on top of our dining room table all the time. What a rascal!
We had another birthday party for Kaitlyn and I with the Lowthers once we got back here. Kaitlyn got a new bike and absolutely loves it! The problem is she won't pedal on her own and wants us to push her everywhere. She is definitely three! All of you Twilight fans out there will be happy to know that Laura bought me Twillight and New Moon for my birthday. I have only read the first chapter so far. Now wait before you get mad at me. I don't want to start them until I can really sit down and read them because everyone says they are so addictive. I just haven't had that kind of time to read them. I am definitely going to do it here soon though. I will let you know how I liked them.
Other than that, our summer has been filled with swimming, ant bites, trips to grandma's house, cook-outs, church ativities, bike-riding and lots of yard and house work. School doesn't start until September, so we still have another month of fun! Hopefully we can take a weekend trip to the beach or North Carolina or somewhere before September. These past few months have just flown by and there is still so much we want to do. I hope everyone is having a great summer!!!

Here we go....

Ok, I know, I know. But I finally did it. I will try to sum up as much as possible so as not to bore you. Here we go......We had a great time driving across country to visit family in Utah. We were never bored--there was so much going on. We had Sadie's (my niece) baptism, Taylor's (my nephew) baptism, Joshua's (another nephew) blessing, family pictures, my birthday party, Kaitlyn's birthday party, Luke's (nephew) 1st birthday, saying goodbye to Ryan (nephew) before he went to the MTC, the balloon launch and the stadium of fire. That list doesn't include all the family and friends we visited and the stuff we did together as a family. The time went by so quickly! Thanks Laura for letting us crash with you guys. You were great hosts! We were sad to leave so soon, but we had 11 days out there so it was time to go. Thanks everyone for helping us have a spectacular trip! We love you and miss you all!
